Marching Band

An important component of our band program is The Marching Blackshirts of Waukesha South.

The Marching Blackshirts have an intense season each summer and fall. In addition to performances at selected home football games, providing the National Anthem and half-time shows, the Band performs at a number of venues throughout Wisconsin.

In 2013, our Marching Band will compete at Waukesha North's Bandfest, Waukesha West's Fox River Invitational, Greendale High School's annual Preview of Champions competition, and at the State WSMA Marching Competition at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. The Band will host and perform at South's 24th Annual Marchfest Marching Competition Show, one of the longest running High School Marching Band events in Wisconsin. 2013's Marchfest brings 10 High School Bands to South's Stadium for this WSMA sanctioned event! The Blackshirt’s 2013 show, Color Vortex, highlights the musical work of Key Poulan. Color Vortex mixes the personalities and dynamics of each band member to create something bigger than oneself.

Recent notable events for the Marching Blackshirts include a performance by the Band during My24’s Thursday Night Lights show, televised locally in SE Wisconsin. In 2010, South participated in Northwestern University’s Halftime program that featured thousands of Midwest Marching Band students. They also performed Opening Ceremonies for Six Flags Great America, and helped with fall grounds-keeping chores at the Waukesha Public Library as part of a Community Service Give-Back day.

The Marching Blackshirts of Waukesha South can also be seen in Waukesha's 2013 Holiday Parade and in the 2014 Waukesha Memorial Day Parade.
